Coupons

The main drawback of coupons is that you have to know where to find them and how to use them. At times it may seem that everyone is getting a discount through the use of coupons except for you! There are a lot of online electronics retailers that offer coupons. Just like in 'the real world', coupons are offered in order to give a consumer a reason to buy.

You may have reached a retailers checkout page and noticed that there was a box that asked if you have a coupon code. This may make you think that you have somehow missed the boat. Don't worry, most of the time, you have not.

For the most part, online electronics retailers offer coupons in order to get your repeat business. That is, after you already buy something from their online electronics store, they may send you a coupon code through email in order to try to entice you to buy from them again in the future. The bottom line here is to not be put off by not having a coupon code. You are not alone!

Rebates

These days it is fairly common to find electronics that offer some form of rebate. This is something that you will mostly find at your local electronics store rather than through an online shopping portal. Let's face it, rebates require a lot of work. Sure, some retailers have streamlined the manufacturer rebate process and have trained their sales associates to educate the consumer about how to get their rebate but for the most part, you are pretty much on your own when it comes to getting this type of discount.

In a typical rebate scenario you will pay the full price for the electronic item and then you will be given a sales receipt as well as a 'rebate receipt' that you will need to fill out and send in to the manufacturer. As well as filling out the rebate form, which can be tricky at times, you will also need to include a copy of the original sales receipt and sometimes a piece of the original packaging which includes the UPC label. After you fill out the forms and gather the required documentation, you mail it all off to the manufacturer. You then wait between 2 and 10 weeks for your rebate check to show up in your mailbox. Doesn't really sound like all that much fun does it?

Discounts

There are a variety of methods that you can use in order to buy your electronics at a discount. The most obvious method is to just look for big sales. You can generally find the biggest discounts during the heaviest shopping periods of the year. However, discounts are also available right after these shopping periods. The retailers end up with a surplus of stock and need to unload this merchandise so they have an "after Christmas sale" or a "going out of business sale" or a "we really need your business so please buy this stuff from us now" sale.

Another way to get a discount on electronics is to simply ask for it. You might do this by showing the store clerk a copy of an ad for the same item at a different store at a lower price or you might find an electronics item in the store that appears to have a minor defect. Don't be afraid to strike a deal! The only thing that you have to lose is your dignity (and your money).

A somewhat tricky and sticky way to get a discount on electronics is to keep an eye on the price after you have already purchased the item. If the item goes on sale and you bought the item within 90 days, many electronics stores will refund your purchase and allow you to buy the item at the new lower price. As a side note, this is probably the least desirable way to go about getting a discount.

Deals

Getting the best deal on your electronics depends on how much work you are willing to put into it. If you want to get a great deal then all you need to do is visit the online electronics stores and do some comparison shopping. You might be surprised by how much you can actually save by doing some research. You might find your electronic item at one store for $279 while a competitor is selling the same item for $199. Just be sure to check to make sure that you are dealing with a reputable retail establishment.
