AllElectronicStores.com Articles - The Digital TV Revolution For most people, there is no reason to worry about the digital TV revolution. Traditionally, television signals have been sent through analog broadcasting. However, since analog is not nearly as efficient as digital, changes are in order. Analog signals simply take up too much of the available and valuable spectrum. With all signals going out as digital, more of the spectrum will be made available. So what will happen with the surplus spectrum? The surplus spectrum will simply be auctioned off to new or existing services. Analog broadcasting is considered a dinosaur in the world of modern technology. Analog television is being replaced by digital broadcasting mush in the same way that cassette tapes replaced eight tracks and CD's replaced cassettes. By law, national TV stations stations have to cease using analog broadcasting as a way of sending TV signals. By February 17, 2009, all stations must begin broadcasting in the digital format.. Digital television (DTV) is widely available now and has been for some time. Most of the larger television stations in the country are already broadcasting with digital technology. Still, there are millions of people who risk losing television reception unless they take the steps that are needed in order to be ready for the digital TV revolution. What you Need Know If you are one of the millions of people who use an antenna in order to watch free, over-the-air TV on a regular analog television set then you will need to take action in order to continue watching your programming. If you currently pay for your television services then you have nothing to worry about. The cable and satellite TV companies already broadcast in digital. So, what if I am one of those people who would be affected by the digital TV revolution? You can upgrade to digital television by purchasing a digital converter box or you could buy a digital TV set and subscribe to cable, satellite or another type of television service that is paid for. It should be noted that if your television set has a built-in digital tuner, then you will continue to receive free programming after the transition. |
